Jimmy Kimmel's newborn son's operation on his heart was "the longest three hours" of his life.
The 48-year-old American television presenter announced his wife, Molly McNearney, gave birth to their child William on April 21, but the tiny tot had to undergo an invasive procedure within a matter of hours after he was born because he had "two defects in his heart", which left the parents fearing the worse.
Speaking openly about his brood on Monday's (05.01.17) episode of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', the show's host - who also has daughters Katie, 25, Jane, two, and 23-year-old son Kevin - said: "On Monday morning, Dr. Vaughn Starnes opened his chest and fixed one of the two defects in his heart. He went in there with a scalpel and did some kind of magic that I couldn't even begin to explain.
"He opened the valve, and the operation was a success. It was the longest three hours of my life."
During the programme Jimmy thanked the Children's Hospital Los Angeles and the medical experts for taking care of his child.
William has since left the hospital to settle in at home with his family, and the funnyman has revealed his child is doing "great" following the operation and is doing "all the things" babies should do, including peeing on his mother.
He continued: "He's doing great. He's eating. He's sleeping. He peed on his mother today while she was changing his diaper. He's doing all the things that he's supposed to do."
Despite the initial complications, Jimmy has admitted he loves fatherhood and has credited it as "the best".
He said: "This is the best."

|Kelly Ripa to Announce Live! Co-Host|

Kelly Ripa will announce her new 'Live!' co-host on Monday (01.05.17).
The 46-year-old television presenter has been hosting the talk show with a slew of guest stars since her co-host Michael Strahan left the programme for a presenting job on 'Good Morning America' almost a year ago, but she has now announced the search for a permanent presenter is over and will be revealed on Monday's show.
Kelly broke the news to her fans when she took to Twitter on Sunday (30.04.17) to share a video of herself drinking from a 'Live!' branded mug with a question mark drawn on it.
The blonde beauty said in the video: "Tune in tomorrow. Trust me."
And the short eight-second clip was captioned: "We're going to need a bigger mug. #TuneInToLive #BigAnnouncement #LiveKellyCohost (sic)"
In September, Kelly and the 'Live!' crew embarked on the search to find a co-host from members of the public when they opened up a competition for a fan to win the chance to host the show alongside Kelly.
Speaking on the show at the time, Kelly said: "The moment you've all been waiting for ... You, that's right, you could be co-host. That's right, here!"
Detailing what viewers had to do to enter the competition, a post on livekelly.com read: "Submit a video pitch demonstrating why you have what it takes to sit next to Kelly Ripa ... and in the entry form make sure to tell us all about yourself in 100 words or less!"
The 'Marvin's Room' actress has previously enlisted the help of stars such as Jimmy Kimmel and Joel McHale to guest co-host the show.
Meanwhile, it was previously claimed Michael - who had been Kelly's co-host for four years before his departure - and Kelly had managed to resolve their differences in the interest of an amicable split.
A source revealed: "Kelly realised her issue wasn't really with Michael, but the network. Are they best friends? No. But there definitely is some peace."

Jimmy Kimmel has paid tribute to the late Don Rickles.
The 49-year-old American television host gushed about the legendary comedian - who passed away from kidney failure at the age of 90 at his Los Angeles home on Thursday (06.04.17) - in a heartfelt speech, which saw him praise the "funny and sharp and generous" actor as being "too youthful" to die.
Speaking on his show 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' on Thursday evening (06.04.17), he said: "We lost someone that we and I love very much today ... Don Rickles passed away this morning. He was 90 years old. And I know it sounds crazy to say that he was too young - but he was because he was youthful -- he was so funny and sharp and generous and I was fortunate enough to -- not only have Don on this show as my guest - but also to become close to him and his wife Barbara - which was a lot of fun for me."
The dark-hard funny man idolised the 'Casino' star when he was a child, and loved watching the comic mock iconic actors and singers, including the late Frank Sinatra.
Jimmy continued: "I grew up in Las Vegas - so Don Rickles - even when I was a kid - was a very big deal. His name was on the marquee at the Sahara. Then you'd see him with Johnny Carson. Making fun of Johnny - making fun of [Frank] Sinatra."
And Jimmy feels "lucky" he had the chance to meet the star and has credited him as the "greatest talk show guest".
He said: "Sitting behind a desk while Don Rickles made fun of me. It was like being a real talk show host for a minute. "He was a funny guy, I know that's not a news flash.
"I was lucky to know him.
"He was probably the greatest talk show guest of all time."
And the Brooklyn-born writer and producer has shared his "love and condolences" to Don's grieving family and friends.
He said: "My love and condolences to Don's wife Barbara, his daughter Mindy - his stepdaughters - Bob Saget and John Stamos His main man Tony O - Paul Shefrin - There will never be another Don Rickles."
