Mel B's former flame has claimed the star's explosive break-up with Stephen Belafonte was brought on by her father's death.
Christa Parker - who previously had a Lesbian fling with the 41-year-old beauty prior to her meeting her estranged husband in 2007 - says the loss of her dad Martin in March "hit her full force".
The 44-year-old businesswoman also said that Mel's nasty split from the 41-year-old filmmaker led to her reconciling her relationship with her mother Andrea, 61, and sister Danielle, 36, who she hadn't spoken to for several years because of their contentious relationship with the producer.
Christa told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I think that her dad getting sick, the reality of that, and him passing - that hit her full force.
"She was always close to her mum ands sister and dad.
"She talked to her mum every day, she talked to her sister every day.
"Her mum would come to LA and we'd all go out and do things."
On how the family drifted apart when Stephen came into the picture, she continued: "But when her and Stephen got together that just didn't happen anymore. She got rid of her old friends, people that were close to her, because he had to be in control of everything.
"Her family despised him. Stephen would call Melanie's mum and sister and just cuss them out and abuse them He didn't like Melanie around them, so that's why she cut them off."
Mel's sister recently branded Stephen a "psychopath", days after her older sibling was granted a restraining order amid allegations her husband had been abusive throughout their 10-year marriage.
The former 'Emmerdale' actress wrote on Instagram: "Dear all media I won't be selling a story on my sister never have and never will!! Here is my comment below so you can now leave me and my mum alone and let us be united and grieve the loss of my dad.
"@stephenthinks11 8 years of abusive calls me and my mum have had stating we would never see Melanie again.I am laughing and celebrating as you were wrong.you are a sorry excuse of a man !! To the left to the left everything you own in the box to the left I hope you... go to jail and rot in hell !! #wifebeater #physcopath #animalkiller #abuser #eventslocker #moneylaundering #fraud #criminal #adultery #kidnap #attemptedmuder #firearm #controling #violent #evil #devilman #gotmysistersback #united #mydadisdancinginhisgrave #dontmesswiththebrowns (sic)"
In her restraining order, Mel - who has 10-year-old daughter Angel with Eddie Murphy and 18-year-old Phoenix with Jimmy Gulzar - claimed Stephen had hit her, got their nanny pregnant and forced her to take part in threesomes.
Stephen was recently granted monitored visitation rights with their fiver-year-old daughter Madison, amidst the divorce battle.

Mel B has been granted a restraining order against her estranged husband Stephen Belafonte.
The 41-year-old film producer has been ordered to stay away from the singer and her three children after she claimed in documents submitted to the court and obtained by TMZ that he hit her, got their nanny pregnant and forced her to take part in threesomes during their 10-year marriage.
The former Spice Girl - who filed for divorce from her ex-beau last month - alleged the abuse started within the first year of their marriage in 2007 and saw him "punch" her, "choke" her and "split" her lip.
The documents state, "Stephen placed both of his hands around her neck, began choking her and slammed her down onto the hardwood floors," while she was preparing for 'Dancing with the Stars'.
Mel has claimed the domestic abuse became a reoccurring "pattern" for the then-couple with Stephen allegedly choosing to "beat her down to let her know he was in charge" whenever she saw a spike in her career.
She has also accused the producer of hurting her after he flew into a fit of rage out of "jealousy" when she filmed a segment with Usher, which he saw as "flirting", for 'The X Factor' in 2012.
Things allegedly took another turn for the worse just before the Spice Girls performed at the Olympic closing ceremony in London in 2012 as he pushed her so hard that she suffered carpet burns.
Mel has claimed her estranged husband forced her to tweet that she had "injured herself by running in heels" in a bid to stop people speculating when she took to the stage in front of the whole world.
The singer - who has five-year-old daughter Madison with Stephen - has stated she became so "overcome with emotional and physical exhaustion" in 2014 that she overdosed on a bottle of Aspirin.
However, she's claimed she never reported the attempted overdose to the emergency services because Stephen allegedly locked her in the bedroom and told her to "die, bitch."
But Mel has admitted she wasn't just subject to physical and emotional abuse but Stephen also allegedly got their nanny pregnant and suggested "all three of us" live together with the new baby.
However, the nanny was later paid a reported $300,000 to have an abortion, the documents claim.
It was previously claimed that the estranged couple had an "open and loose relationship" but Mel states that Stephen actually forced her to have "intercourse with him and random women."
He then secretly filmed the steamy trysts and allegedly threatened to release the sex tapes.
Mel has claimed she had previously tried to leave Stephen but he "threatened me with violence and threatened to destroy my life in every possible way ... destroy my career and take my kids from me."
Stephen has denied all the allegations against him and says he has been left "distraught" by her claims.
He told TMZ: "I haven't heard these allegations. You know what my comment on this is, as this is the mother of my children? I'm really really distraught in my brain by how this is going to affect our children and the depths that she's gone to. I'm shocked at those allegations and that's what it is. I think someone's set me up to look like a bad guy. Obviously you saw my house got raided and nobody found anything. It's accusation after accusation. But we'll have our day in court. And we have children. If anyone knows our children, we have beautiful children. They're on social media. Why do this? We were friends two weeks ago. And now all of a sudden the team gets around and now it's got to be this."
As well as Madison with Stephen, Mel also has Phoenix, 18, with her first husband Jimmy Gulzar and nine-year-old daughter Angel with Eddie Murphy.

|Mel B Had Pre-Nup|

Mel's B's estranged husband is expected to get just £5 million in their divorce.
The former Spice Girls singer filed for divorce from Stephen Belafonte earlier this week and it has now emerged he won't be getting an equal share of her estimated £48 million fortune because they signed a pre-nuptial agreement before they tied the knot in June 2007.
A source told The Sun Online: "Mel is a canny Yorkshire lass and was advised to protect her assets and estate before the wedding.
"This wasn't an act of preparing for the marriage to fail but was an act of a hard-nosed business woman who knew the pitfalls that can lie ahead in any relationship."
It isn't known how much was stated in the documents, but legal expert Harold Walker admitted Stephen, 41, could get more than their pre-agreed sum if he could prove he had turned down work in order to support the 41-year-old star's business endeavours.
He said: "A figure could be added to the pre-nup if it is shown that he has effectively turned down work to be at his wife's side.
"I think a total of a £5 million settlement that includes the pre-nup and any additional lost work seems reasonable and certainly a lot less than half of £48 million."
It was previously claimed the former couple had taken their five-year-old daughter Madison and Mel's children Phoenix, 18, whom she has with ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar and Angel, nine, from her fling with Eddie Murphy, to a family therapy session in order to "make sure their kids are OK" in the wake of the split.
The pair were said to have travelled in separate cars to the session which took place in Mulholland Estates in Beverly Hills, at the home of Mel's long time psychiatrist Doctor Charles Sophy.
And all three children travelled in a third car with their nanny.
The reported family therapy session is believed to be the first session of this kind that the pair have attended, though it was previously reported they had tried couples therapy before their split to no avail.
A source said: "They started from the beginning when they realised they were very different people, who would argue and row. Their personalities were like fire and ice, one minute it was pure adoration and the next it was an all-out war.
"It led to them having blow-out arguments non-stop. However, as they got further down the line, the stress of keeping things together proved too much. The therapy prompted more fights and bitterness. Their connection by the end was all but burned out."
