Jimmy Kimmel Opens Up About His Son's Heart Operation

Added: 02.05.2017 17:20 | 89 views | 0 comments

Jimmy Kimmel's newborn son's operation on his heart was "the longest three hours" of his life.
The 48-year-old American television presenter announced his wife, Molly McNearney, gave birth to their child William on April 21, but the tiny tot had to undergo an invasive procedure within a matter of hours after he was born because he had "two defects in his heart", which left the parents fearing the worse.
Speaking openly about his brood on Monday's (05.01.17) episode of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', the show's host - who also has daughters Katie, 25, Jane, two, and 23-year-old son Kevin - said: "On Monday morning, Dr. Vaughn Starnes opened his chest and fixed one of the two defects in his heart. He went in there with a scalpel and did some kind of magic that I couldn't even begin to explain.
"He opened the valve, and the operation was a success. It was the longest three hours of my life."
During the programme Jimmy thanked the Children's Hospital Los Angeles and the medical experts for taking care of his child.
William has since left the hospital to settle in at home with his family, and the funnyman has revealed his child is doing "great" following the operation and is doing "all the things" babies should do, including peeing on his mother.
He continued: "He's doing great. He's eating. He's sleeping. He peed on his mother today while she was changing his diaper. He's doing all the things that he's supposed to do."
Despite the initial complications, Jimmy has admitted he loves fatherhood and has credited it as "the best".
He said: "This is the best."

Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna are "independently working on themselves".
The former couple - who have five-month-old daughter Dream together - ended their turbulent on/off relationship two months ago, and though they have recently been seen looking more cosy on Snapchat, insiders insist the pair are not back together, but they have been hanging out as friends for the sake of their little girl.
A source told E! News: "They are co-parenting and independently working on themselves but they're more cordial now than they have been, which is why they hung out recently. But by no means are they back together."
Chyna, 28, has also recently moved into a new home as she wanted a bigger space and is now closer to her Lashed Salon.
The insider added: "She's really excited about this house and she's been busy nesting."
But Rob, 30, still gets to see his daughter on a weekly basis and is "always so happy" to spend time with her, especially as her personality is changing and developing every day.
The source said: "She's not quite rolling over yet but she is very giggly, laughing at everything and has a million new facial expressions.
"She's starting to watch and absorb cartoons now. It's so cute."

Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West attended a self-help seminar, which has been designed to set people free from fear.
The couple - who share North, three, and Saint, 15 months - were seen at the Unleash The Power Within seminar, run by Tony Robbins, alongside Kim's sister Khloe Kardashian and their mother Kris Jenner.
The group splashed out on the Diamond Premiere VIP pack, giving them front row seats to Tony's inspiring talks.
Taking to Instagram, Kris shared a video of the day, captioning it: "So this happened today!!! Thank you @tonyrobbins for the amazing day today!! You are truly so remarkable and my family and I appreciate you so very much. #lifechanging #gamechanger #bestdayever #tonyrobbins #bestenergy (sic)"
Kim and Kanye have had a tough time of it recently after the 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' star was robbed at gunpoint in Paris last October and the 'Only One' rapper was hospitalised with exhaustion a couple of months later.
And Kim is understandably still shaken by all that happened in Paris as she admitted reliving it all is still "very tough" for her.
Referring to the recent episode of her E! reality show where she opened up about the robbery, she said: "Tonight's episode is going to be very tough for me. However, I thought it was important to share this story through my eyes & not in an interview where my own words could be twisted. I have always shared so much & I'm not going to hold back when this was probably one of the most life changing experiences for me.
"I would never wish this experience upon anyone, but have learned some valuable lessons &feel so blessed to be safe home w my babies & husband. To my friends, family, and loved ones I can't thank you enough for being there when I needed you the most. To the French police, thank you for your incredible hard work (sic)."

Kim Kardashian West 'still vulnerable' after robbery

Kim Kardashian West is "still vulnerable" after her Paris robbery.
The 36-year-old reality star was robbed at gunpoint in a terrifying ordeal in the French capital last October, and after a recently aired episode of 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' showed Kim talking about her attack, sources say life is still a "daily struggle" for her.
One source said: "Kim has come a long way from the robbery but that said, it's a daily struggle to move past it and she probably never will be past it entirely."
Whilst another added to People magazine: "Kim still speaks of the robbery as the most horrific experience she has ever had. [She] is still vulnerable and cries about the robbery."
The brunette beauty took to Twitter shortly before the episode aired on Sunday (19.03.17) to say that whilst her ordeal was "very tough", she also believes it was a "life changing experience" that she won't shy away from.
She wrote: "Tonight's episode is going to be very tough for me.
"However, I thought it was important to share this story through my eyes & not in an interview where my own words could be twisted

In the episode, Kim - who shares North, three, and Saint, 14 months, with husband Kanye West - said she believed there was "no way out" as her attackers were likely to shoot her if she tried to run.
She said: "They ask for money. I said 'I don't have any money.'
"They dragged me out to the hallway, on top of the stairs. That's when I saw the gun like, clear as day. I was kind of looking at the gun, looking down back at the stairs...
"I had a split second in my mind to make this quick decision.
"Am I gonna run down the stairs... Either they're gonna shoot me in the back, or if I make it and they don't, if the elevator does not open in time, or the stairs are locked, then like, I'm f***ed. There's no way out."
